Samson
Description
"Samson" is a song originally composed, performed, recorded, and released by Regina Spektor. The song was first performed and recorded as part of the Two Jews on Christmas session on 2001-12-25 and subsequently released on the album Songs in early 2002.
"Samson" was first performed live on 2002-03-13 at The Living Room in Brooklyn, New York. The song would then go on to be periodically performed between 2002 and 2006.
"Samson" was reworked with additional instrumentation and production and rereleased on the LP Begin to Hope on 2006-06-13. A music video for "Samson" was released on 2006-11-13 on YouTube. This was followed by its official release as a single on 2007-03-12 for the UK market.
After its rerelease, "Samson" would begin to feature prominantly in live performances. Three of these performances were officially recorded and released on the EP Live at Lollapalooza 2007 EP, the LP Live in London, and the LP Live on Soundstage.
Since 2006, "Samson" features reliably in live performances, a trend which continues to the present day. The song is included on the vast majority of live shows, usually functioning as the post-encore show closer.

Lyrics
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth
I have to go, I have to go
Your hair was long when we first met
Samson went back to bed
Not much hair left on his head
He ate a slice of Wonder bread, and went right back to bed
And history books forgot about us and the Bible didn't mention us
And the Bible didn't mention us, not even once
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the stars came falling on our heads
But they're just old light, they're just old light
Your hair was long when we first met
Samson came to my bed
Told me that my hair was red
Told me I was beautiful, and came into my bed
Oh, I cut his hair myself one night
A pair of dull scissors in the yellow light
And he told me that I'd done alright
And kissed me 'til the morning light, the morning light
And he kissed me 'til the morning light
Samson went back to bed
Not much hair left on his head
He ate a slice of Wonder bread, and went right back to bed
Oh, we couldn't bring the columns down
Yeah, we couldn't destroy a single one
And history books forgot about us
And the Bible didn't mention us, not even once
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first
