Description
"Düsseldorf" is a song orginally composed, performed, recorded and released by Regina Spektor. The song was first performed live on 2002-11-30 at Sidewalk Cafe in New York. "Düsseldorf" was played extensively throughout 2003, originally slated to feature on the 2003 LP Soviet Kitsch. Ultimately, Regina felt that she could not get the sound just right, and the song was shelved. The song was last performed on 2003-02-09 at Maxwell's in New Jersey.
Three years later, "Düsseldorf" would reemerge on the LP Begin to Hope on 2006-06-13, later featuring as a b-side to the single On the Radio on 2006-07-03.
Due to the timing of its first performance and the subject matter of its lyrics, "Düsseldorf" is likely a embellished retelling of Regina's adventures in Europe, including one of her earliest shows in Gelterkinden, Switzerland and her series of shows in London, Amsterdam, and Brussels just a few days prior to the premiere of the song.
